Summer 2019

Summer 2019

The refund schedules below list the possible student refunds. Depending on your course load and the date you drop a course, you may or may not be entitled to a refund.

All 12 week courses follow the Summer Session I Refund Policy. Undergraduate students do not receive any refunds of tuition and fees as a result of "W" Grade Policy

Graduate students do not receive any refunds of tuition and fees for courses withdrawn (WG) based on Policy Memorandum 238 (PDF).

If you have financial aid, please contact your financial aid counselor before resigning, withdrawing or reducing your course load.

The technology fee, library fee, course fees and comprehensive fee are nonrefundable and no reduction will be made after the beginning of classes.

All refunds will be calculated from the official date of resignation, which may not necessarily be the last day of class attendance. However, no refund will be granted for a resignation which occurred in a previous fiscal year.

Refunds are payable to the student by Direct Deposit if the student has provided us with banking information. If not, a check will be printed and mailed to the permanent address as listed on the Hokie Spa at the time the refund is issued.

  1. An in-state UG drops from 6 to 3 hours during the 25% refund period: Their charges will be:
    • 25% x 3 hours dropped = 2.25 hours
    • Hours still enrolled = 3 hours
    • Student will be charged for 2.25 + 3 = 5.25 hours
    • There is not a maximum charge for undergraduates during the summer terms
  2. An out-of-state GR drops from 7 hours to 3 during the 50% refund period: Their charges will be:
    • 50% x 4 hours dropped = 2 hours
    • Hours still enrolled = 3 hours
    • Student will be charged for 2 + 3 = 5 hours. Student will be billed for full time status (5 hours = full time) and will not be eligible for a refund.
  3. An in-state UG enrolled in 3 hours and resigns from Summer Session I on the effective date of June 1.
    • 50% x 3 hours resign = 1.5 hours
    • The student would receive a refund of 1.5 hours.
