Attorney General Assignments

Accounts that have a principal balance of $3,000 or more, and are deemed collectible are sent to Office of the Attorney General for litigation. After accounts have been returned by OAG, they will be written off.

The following information should be included in the collection package sent to OAG:

  • Name of debtor
  • Current or last known address
  • Phone number
  • Social security number or Federal identification number
  • Date the debt was incurred
  • Place and type of employment
  • Employer's address
  • Principal amount of the debt
  • Interest rate or finance charges and the basis therefore
  • Date from which interest or the finance charges accrues
  • Payment history on the account (date and amount of each payment)
  • Amount of the attorney's fees and/or collection costs if any and the basis therefore
  • Original of any contract with the debtor (retain certified copies in your file. A notary must certify Copies.)
  • Records of all contacts or attempted contacts with the debtor. (Statements, invoices, past due notices, phone contacts)
